Wan Chung Stream

Feature : Wide Stream-bed, Waterfalls and Pools... and...Hong Kong Newt

Wang Chung Stream is close to Bride's Pool. You can take the Bus No. 75K from Tai Po Train Station to Tai Mei Tuk. Afterwards, walk along the Bride's Road for around 1 hour, you then arrive at Chung Mei. You can walk down to the stream next to the bridge before the slope to start your journey. During holidays, you can also take the bus No. 275R to the terminus of Bride's Stream. Just walk along the slope, you also arrive at the mouth of the stream and start your adventure right there. This will save you a little walk.

After entering the stream, you may find the route to Plover Cove Reservoir. Walk upwards to the upper course, just a moment, you will land yourselves on the muddy brown rock, slope and cliff. As a result of the width of the stream, the amount of flow is comparatively not that much. Look straight ahead, instead of the water, you can only find the small stones and scattered rocks. Oh! It's strange.... c'est bizarre!!!

Don't worry. "When there is a will, there is a way". Actually, there is a path on the left hand side leading up to the top of the waterfall. Yet, you may like to take my way - climbing up to the cliff on the right hand side. Having said that, originally, I thought there should be no difficulties until I was on the half way up to the top... yup, I had to admit that there was difficulty. As per what I have said, my will "motivated" myself and finally I'd done it. Of course, I wouldn't miss the precious chance to take photos to commemorate what I had achieved.

Have a walk for around half an hour, here is the "Dragon Ball Lower Waterfall" which is the one starting from a hundred feet highland down here. On the both sides, you will find the scaring sharp cliffs... you may ask yourselves, "oh la la... how can I get there?"

The top of the "Dragon Ball Lower Waterfall" is, of course, the "Dragon Ball Upper Waterfall". The dark green pool between the 2 streams is actually a deep one.

If you choose the path leading to the top of the waterfall, you have no way but have to admire the marvellous view from the top. If you want to admire from the bottom, you cannot do so unless you are good at martial arts!

You have just finished the most difficult section of Wang Chung Stream. From now on, the landscape is much easier.

With around 5 minutes' walk from the top of the "Dragon Ball Upper Waterfall", you will find a small dam. Walk for 10 minutes more, you will then arrive at the "Shuang Bik Tam".

"Shuang Bik Tam" is a wide pool. On the both sides, there is a rather flat slope on which you can lie comfortably to admire the nature. Hey, here is the ideal place for you to relax and enjoy the water.

If you come here in summer, you may get a "bonus"! What it is....

... yes, you may have the chance to say "hi" to the lovely creature - the Hong Kong Newt which looks like "Gozzila". Look! What a lazy guy! You may find Garfield or Tare Panda and it look alike. All of them are lazy "living organisms".

After "Shuang Bik Tam", all of the paths are comparatively flat and easy to walk on. On the both sides above the stream, you may also find other paths linked to the ones on the stream. Having said that, there are still some big pools in this section. You may find the scenery here look like the one in Tai Shing Stream.

Finally, we now arrive at the tranquil stream section. You may wonder if you are being thanked by those warm and cheerful waiters in decent uniforms at the exit of a restaurant and welcomed to come again.

Keep on walking along the stream, you will find the way leading to the main trail. On the left, it is for Tai Mei Tak while on the right, you can walk downwards to Bride's Pool. Hey, it's up to you now.... and enjoy your trip!
